Cynthia has an existing Etsy to sell a variety of painted products. She is considering expanding her products to include a line of skin care products (salves, balms etc.).

Questions – Setting up an LLC – to protect assets with this new line of skin care products (discussed benefits of the LLC’s corporate veil, LLC filing costs and referred to another professional at the Hilltown CDC). Explained that LLC setup would result in an EIN # that she would then need to set up a business bank account (separate from her personal), as well as for sales tax registration with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Explained the sales tax filing and payment process.

She also is seeking assistance with marketing and potentially a website to increase sales, I referred her to the upcoming classes in April as those appeared to be right on point with her questions.

Bookkeeping – discussed WAV and its ability to import data from a variety of sales apps (Venmo, Etsy, Zelle) that might make her bookkeeping easier as she is presently using paper. She is also using the Square at crafts shows so WAV may be a good fit.

She has a tax professional and I suggested that she follow-up with them to discuss inventory and quarterly estimated taxes that may be necessary as her business expands into this new area sales potentially increase.
