I met with Ian at the end of the day after his last day at his full time job working at a junkyard. Ian has worked part time on weekends and evenings doing homerepair under the name Ian's General services since 2019, however Ian took the plunge, gave his two weeks, and is going full time in his own business to support his family.

Ian recently added "Slate Roof Repair" to his list of skills, and is focusing on that as his main skill he is offering, however he continues to do home improvement jobs, as well as pellet stove repair.

We discussed the following areas:

Advertising- Ian has a new set of business cards he created from vista print advertising slate roof repair, as well as a number of signs he has mounted on his work trailer. Ian regularly promotes his business on Facebook, posting photos and videos of his latest projects. He expects to get customers mostly through referrals. Ian's signage and business cards are professional and well done.

Accounting and taxes: Ian's father has been taking care of Ian's taxes and accounting for his part time business. Ian expressed that he "has to learn that". We discussed online options (such as QuickBooks) and other less expensive alternatives.

Insurance: Ian has liability insurance through NEXT.

Ian has some jobs lined up, and is looking forward to having more time to spend with his family- notably- his new baby girl.
